Online Tutoring: Should We Leave Face-to-Face Learning Behind?

Telah dibaca beberapa kali

Online Tutoring – The rapid advancement of technology demands that all aspects of life adapt accordingly. This includes the world of education. Technology and lifestyle changes are reshaping the way we think and how we learn.

Now you can even study with a teacher straight from your bed?

Unlike the time before computers, gadgets, and the internet, studying used to be rigid, relying solely on books and a teacher’s explanation. But now, all the information you want to learn or know is literally in the palm of your hand. Just make sure you have data, okay… hehe.

“In the past, 9 out of 10 things students knew came from their teachers. But now, students can know 11, 20, even 100 things their teacher doesn’t.”

Even teaching methods in schools have started using e-learning-based approaches, making learning more flexible, effective, and efficient. With the internet and platforms supporting every aspect of our lives, we no longer need to go to a store to shop, buy movie tickets from a counter, or even meet teachers in person to study—online learning is booming.

Everything is easier, instant, and more affordable. That’s the foundation of why technology grows so fast—to simplify every aspect of life. With online learning, students can watch learning videos on their own devices. If a student wants to consult about a subject, they can do it from home—even from their own bed. Amazing, isn’t it?

There are many conveniences to be gained. The essence of online learning is that it simplifies several factors—primarily location and time. And as technology continues to advance, it is very possible that in the future, online learning will not just be a supplement, but a primary need for everyone in the world of education.

But here’s the question:

Should we completely abandon face-to-face learning?

The Unique Sensation of Direct Interaction

As advanced as technology is today, the touch of face-to-face interaction still holds a special kind of magic. The personal and emotional connection between a teacher and student is much more visible in person than through a video lesson. Even chat-based consultations won’t be as effective as sitting face-to-face. Not even a video call can fully replace the impact of meeting someone in person.

It’s just like being in a relationship, hehe. No matter how often you chat, call, or video call—your longing can only truly be cured by meeting in person.

The learning experience is similar to the joy of exploring scenic views during a vacation. Would you rather go to the beach to enjoy the ocean firsthand or just watch the waves on YouTube? Your choice is obvious, right?

Discipline Training and Character Building

We all know the rise of the internet and social media affects people’s social lives today. Children tend to become more antisocial, emotionally weaker, and less socially aware due to a lack of interaction with the environment and people around them.

It’s not uncommon to see headlines in forums discussing the decline of children’s character nowadays. In line with the government’s vision of character education, face-to-face learning is much more effective in delivering the emotional and moral touch needed to shape character.

“Character outweighs intellect.”

With online learning allowing students to study anytime and anywhere, there’s a risk that discipline will decline—especially without a strong personal character. There will no longer be training in punctuality, class attendance, or schedule adherence. Yet, discipline must be trained and reinforced consistently.

Author’s Perspective: Our Attitude Toward This Phenomenon

Hold on! Don’t assume the author is against this trend. At KLC Tutoring, we fully support the advancement of technology and e-learning. Life, after all, needs boundless creativity and innovation.

However, if you ask whether we should completely abandon face-to-face learning? For now, our answer is not yet. Unless, one day, technology becomes so advanced—like in Hollywood movies—where people appear as holograms and can interact as if they were physically present. Maybe then face-to-face learning could be replaced by technology.

KLC Tutoring supports e-learning development, but only as a supplement to direct, in-class learning. KLC has already developed facilities for outside-class consultation, both in-person at the consultation desk or online via various platforms—what we call our Student Care service.

Our online platform includes a consultation forum on the KLC website. This service is free for all registered KLC students. They can submit questions about topics or problems they don’t understand via their phones, and our subject experts will provide guidance. We’ll continue developing this platform to ensure satisfying services for our students.

Hope this helps!
